- Own the Core OS: Design, harden, and lifecycle-manage our Linux distributions across both VMs and cloud environments.
- Bridge the Stack: Architect and maintain the integration between traditional on-premises hardware (compute, storage, networking) and our AWS multi-account footprint.
- Low-Level Optimization: Think about scale and reliability at the system level, focusing on kernel tuning, I/O performance, and resource isolation.
- Infrastructure Evolution: Plan the migration or hybrid-connectivity path between traditional VM-based workloads and container orchestration (K8s/Service Mesh).
- Hybrid Observability: Maintain unified visibility across physical hardware health and high-level application metrics (logs, Prometheus metrics, and traces).
- Eliminate Toil: Automate routine systems administration (patching, provisioning, backups) to ensure a "hands-off" datacenter experience.
- Disaster Recovery: Manage high-availability and DR strategies, including off-site backups, hardware redundancy, and stateful data integrity.
- Linux Mastery: 5+ years of deep Linux systems engineering (RHEL/CentOS, Debian/Ubuntu). You should be comfortable with the CLI, boot process, LVM, and systemd.
- Network & Storage Savvy: Solid understanding of TCP/IP networking, VLANs, load balancing (HAProxy), and storage protocols (NFS, iSCSI, SAN).
- Virtualization Expert: Heavy experience with virtualized environments, including resource allocation and performance troubleshooting.
- Modern Orchestration: Proficient in Docker and Kubernetes (EKS), with the ability to explain how containers interact with the underlying Linux kernel (cgroups/namespaces).
- Automation Architect: Expertise in Ansible for configuration management and Terraform for managing both cloud resources and on-prem providers.
- Scripting: Advanced proficiency in Bash and Python for automating system tasks and data processing.
- Security Mindset: Knowledge of OS hardening (SELinux/AppArmor), SSH key management, and internal compliance auditing.
